Frequently asked questions
What season is truffle hunting done in?
The truffle species change according to the harvesting calendar, but there’s production more or less all year round. The Exclusive experience is available year-round, while shared hunts run from 1 February to 30 September and group hunts from 1 February to 31 October. We’re closed for holidays from 15 to 31 January.
Do you really find truffles?
Ours is a real truffle search — our goal is to share the genuine experience a truffle hunter lives every day! Depending on the period and the season there can be more or less truffle; finding it takes effort, knowledge and a bit of luck, which is exactly why it’s so prized. We don’t want to offer you the usual staged hunt: we want you to feel the real thrill of searching with the dogs.
Only in rare cases out of season and/or on request, some truffles may be placed before the hunt, so everyone can share in the action and the certainty of a find.
Can I keep the truffles we find?
We prefer not to promise anything, precisely because it’s a real hunt — but we often leave a small gift for our guests during the seasons from January to September. For white truffle (October to January) this isn’t possible, of course, but we’ll do our best to give you the chance to buy truffle at a favourable market price.
What should I wear?
For autumn and winter, hiking shoes or boots and clothing suited to the woods and the season; a waterproof jacket, even a light one, is essential, as white-truffle grounds are often damp and wet. For summer, a pair of hiking or athletic shoes is enough, long trousers are recommended, along with a hat for the sun. If you have insect repellent, it can be a good idea on some days and for the afternoon hunt.
Do the dogs come along?
Yes, the experience takes place together with our truffle dogs, the real stars of the search.
Where does it take place?
Generally in Casole d’Elsa and Radicondoli, in the province of Siena, between Siena and Florence — but we can also travel elsewhere on request.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, it’s an experience designed for families too, with reduced rates for children.
How do I book, and can I cancel?
Outings are booked at least 4 days in advance; cancellation is free up to 48 hours before the activity. For late cancellations we’ll retain a percentage of the fee, depending on the experience you’ve chosen.
Can I bring my own dog?
Pets may be allowed, but only on a leash, and they must behave well around other dogs. Please let us know about any additional dogs at the time of booking.
